CODE OF CONDUCT

BOTH COIN has a duty to maintain the highest professional and ethical standards and the following code sets the benchmarks. It protects both the rights of the individual and upholds the public's right to know.

CORRECTNESS

  • Writers of Both Coin should avoid any action which, if it became publicly known, would jeopardise Both Coin’s reputation. If you would be embarrassed by public disclosure of something you are thinking of doing, don't do it. If you have done it tell your senior editor or the Editor. If you are uncertain whether something is ethical, discuss it with your senior editor or the Editor.

ACCURACY 

  • Being vigilant as to not publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted material including pictures and whenever it is recognised that a significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distorted report has been published, it must be corrected promptly and with due prominence.
  • An apology must be published whenever appropriate and writers at Both Coin must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact.
  • Allegations against actions of public servants (government officials), artistes, iconic people and public figure in the performance of their duties should be doubly checked before used in a report.
  • Anonymity should not be allowed to become an instrument for Both Coin to dish out falsehoods. Writers of Both Coin, therefore, should be cautious about sources, which mislead under the garb of anonymity.

DISCRIMINATION

  • Writers of Both Coin must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to a person's race, colour, religion, sex or sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability.
  • They must also avoid publishing details of a person's race, colour, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability unless these are directly relevant to the story/report.

PRIVACY

  • Everyone is entitled to respect for his or her private and family life, home, health and correspondence. Journalists of Business Standard will be expected to justify intrusions into any individual's private life without consent.

HARASSMENT

  • Writers at Both Coin must not obtain or seek to obtain information or pictures through intimidation, harassment or persistent pursuit.
