MALAYSIANS OF INDIAN ETHNICITY, LISTEN UP

Foremost, as much as I like to refer to Indians in Malaysia 'Malaysians' some of us have not transcended the race separatism. This is the result of race based system of everything phased in since our nation's independence.

But, the focus of this article is to make Malaysians of Indian ethnicity think and re-arrange their priorities.

Lately, there are many Indian and Hinduism defiling comments and posts popping up in Facebook. Below is an example:

The Malay girl, Hanum Hizan is calling us immigrants. She added that the Sri Lankan government taught Indians a very good lesson by wiping them out like pigs and further says that if we don't like it here, we should just go back to India where the roads are full of poop and poop in the Ganges river.

As we can see there was reprisal on behalf of the Chinese and an Indian and Miss Hanum goes on to say that Malaysia would be peaceful without the 7%, referring to the Indians- that they only contribute to crime rise.

Now, let's face the reality - what Hanum said is the truth! Can we deny it? No, because 60% of prison inmates are Indians as opposed to Malaysia's population ratio. Yes, truth is indeed hard to swallow but what is harder is to change the inconvenient truth into paths of progression. Instead of defending ourselves, being keyboard warriors let us battle against the scrounge that is sending our boys to prison by droves, that is, gangsterism. See, first of all, we ain't no angels in general; we are the bunch who rock the boat and when other races point it out we get all defensive and succumb to mawkish and profane retorts, trying to wrong those who are criticizing us. Before doing that, take a good look at ourselves and try to mend our rogue ways. No point getting offended when Malays call us 'India mabuk' when in reality alcoholism is the bane of our community. The Chinese drink too, noiselessly, without commotion and fights like us.

But, some racial statements are dangerous. Although we behave in such way people speak bad about us, we don't deserve discrimination. If we are charged for speaking bad about Malays and Islam, the specific individuals from that race should be charged too. Laws should not be discriminatory. Although I totally disagree with the havoc our people are creating, letting racism grow is not good.

We need to stop it, ASAP but not in the ways we are doing now; we should prove to  them wrong by action not overreaction. We should change ourselves, reshuffle our priorities and silence the ridicule with our success and most of all learn to take criticism in our stride - if we keep looking back to throw stones at our tormentors, we would be stuck in a rut. WE WILL NOT PROGRESS. By being a progressive community, we will be able to kill two birds with a stone - we will live well and no one will dare to denounce us.

And, some of us don't know the difference between race and religion. We tend to equate Indian with Hindu. We seem oblivious that there are Christian and Muslim Indians here and they are completely left out of the picture. One more thing, I would like to reiterate that we are not Indians but Malaysians of Indian ethnicity/descent. And, some of us divide the Indian community even further by sub race (Malayalam, Telugu, Punjabi, Tamil, Ceylonese, etc) and caste. Given that veracity, there is a long way for us to go to be Malaysian. Ironically, we call ourselves fellow Malaysians abroad but say, "I am Malay, he is Chinese and you are Indian," in Malaysia. It is the direct result from institutionalized racism. But, nothing is permanent; change is constant and we have hope in the future where we are all Malaysians, playing on equal field.

The response to the picture above:

"Let me come over to our history - ever heard of Harappa and Mohenjo- Daro? We taught you civilization bro and Parameswara was a descendant from Raajendra Chola I, he was a representative king of Chola kingdom, Indonesia and Malaysia was a sub-ordinate territory of the Chola Kingdom and what are you crapping that he was not from India? Even your name, Merong Mahawangsa originates from a Hindu background, he was a king of Langkasuka (now Kedah). Look around you b*stard, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Candis in Lembah Bujang and the great Candis of Borubudur in Indonesia are all engineered by Hindus (Tamils). We have thousands of years buildings here around the Nusantara region and for your information, Tamil originates from a place called Kumari Kandam. A stretched land between India, Sri Lanka up to Australia. Geologically, that land existed and it has submerged during the continental separation. Kumari Kandam is the birth place of Tamils and we were there before any civilization ever formed.

Now you show me the evidences that Hinduism originates from your so called agama Ibrahim AS and explain Kalki? Name me all our prophets, and who is Kalki?

Kalki is a prophet in Hinduism who has not even up to date existed yet and Nabi Muhammad era of ruling is said to have over. We are in Kaliyugam where Kalki is said to be coming as the meanest of all the prophets to destroy fanatics, and bad fellas like you! and Bahasa Melayu contains around a majority of Tamil and Sanskrit words. So yea, if a religion such as Islam (where Judaism existed before Islam) can talk as much as this, imagine Hinduism where the age of its creation is uncertain till today has to say?"

My point is, yeah sure, we were all that - harbinger of civilization, Tamil and Sanskrit form the base of all language, we gave the world science and math, etc, etc.. While we defend ourselves on that base, today, in the face of false claimants and detractors we have failed to be civil, humble and kind like our ancestors were. Look at how the commentator address the Merong Mahawangsa dude - he called him b*stard. Where are his civil attributes? Given to the ancient glorious period - other comments include angered Indians calling Malays indulge in incest and that they are always on the wait for crutches and help from the government like dogs. See, an eye for an eye makes the world go blind. We, Indians, failed to retain and evolve our past glory but we never cease to bask in it and let out litany after litany pertaining our ancient pioneers when faced with insults and jeers from other races here, as though we did all those neat feats. It is of course, warranted to acknowledge, know and disseminate the yester years successes but we should not be proud of the accomplishments of our ancestors simply because we did not contribute anything to them. Forget the past and focus on the present for the future.

Why are we where we are today? Besides our ancestors being kind-hearted - teaching and giving the world knowledge and wisdom, we have rested on our laurels - if other races here ask us what are our achievements, we list out all of what our progenitors have done. And, then we say proud to be Indian. It is like saying that we are proud to have two kidneys. Hello boss, we live in Malaysia - we were born in Malaysia and if anybody call us pendatang we need not be offended - all humans originate from Africa. We are all Africans but mostly, mostly, humans. Yaathum oore, yaavarum kelir, this philosophy came from an Indian. For those who don't know what it means, by all means, Google.

We don't hear white people saying that they are proud to be white. If they were gratified by the invention of the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell, we would not have iPhones on our hands now. Think about it. The Jews were nearly wiped out by Holocaust but today, they hold the reins of the world. Closer to home, Singapore was a basket case of swamps when she got expelled from the federation of Malaysia. Look at today's Singapore; she left Malaysia in the dust. Intelligence and genius are race blind - instead of being proud of a genetic anomaly, let's do something that would benefit us and others.

I am sure all of you heard about Mohamed Hidayat; he defiled Thaipusam, saying that it is a satan copulating fest and called us 'keling' and it has gravely offended us all. Let me tell you, those who really know Hinduism will just laugh this off as a lame joke. The picture below calls for justice; to have the criticizers arrested and apologize for good measure. What we can get from the 'apology' so called 'justice' and the 'arrest we are so hankering for? Will it raise our financial status, feed our children or give us self respect? Especially as a marginalized community where the government doesn't give a hoot and our leaders who make it look like they give a hoot but they actually don't give a hoot, we should know better. Why spend time entertaining religious sensitivity when there are more pressing issues besetting our community? You have taken the vow at Lord Muruga that you will do well in your exams so work feverishly to attain your goal - don't feed this sensitivity frenzy. One fellow defacing Hinduism would not damage the whole cornerstone of our religion - perpetuating this free-for-all is like inviting termites into our wooden house; it will rot us from within. Let me ask, where does all these cussing, criticizing and cursing take us? Nowhere, right.. God has given us brain to think and seek knowledge so do it.. Please..

Photo: How many of u still anger with Man nambabi and Mohamed hidababi?

i think most of u still anger.

But 1st of all , We Hindu's must unite as one team, No as 04,08,21,24,36,505, satu hati and so on, Just only one, Malaysian Hindu's. Facebook is the correct medium to show our unity and this pic will talk everything. a humble request from admin, make this pic as your profile pic. that's all dot

Instead of wasting time by creating posts like this, clamor for the government that we know don't give a damn to take action and swearing away in social network because we have maanam, rosham, soodu, soranai, keep calm and do what will benefit us in the long run - study well, work hard, focus on self and community development, take matters into our own hands, not relying on MIC or waiting for a savior to salvage our plight and prove to these people that we can make it and that they are wrong.

See, we built Malaysia as a unit - the Malays tilled the land and fed their fellow citizens, the Chinese did businesses and created job opportunities and the Indians cleared forests and built the nation, roads and communication. We built Malaysia together. We cannot live without nasi lemak, teh tarik, roti canai and char kuey tiow. Similarly, we cannot live without each other. The people who arouse such racism are the minority - we, the majority, still joke around with our friends of different races. Concentrate on the latter - positive vibes are much more abundant and stronger than negative vibes. Let's concentrate on our positive vibes, kindle the Malaysian spirit and embrace our fellow compatriots. Ambil yang jernih, buang yang keruh. Take in the good and leave out the bad.
